Why is the 2007 National Electricity Delivery Forum Unique? The 2007 National Electricity Delivery Forum is the preeminent national forum that examines the nation's electric power delivery system infrastructure. The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability and the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) sponsor the Forum annually. The National Forum is unique in that critical public policy issues of how the U.S. electric power delivery infrastructure impacts the nation's ability to compete in a global economy and how the nation's consumers are provided a robust, reliable, cost-effective system to meet their needs in the coming decades will be discussed and debated, among panelists and with the audience. The 2007 National Forum will use a lively, interactive format so that the audience has the ability to participate and question speakers, rather than having a series of presentations.
Energy policy makers and regulators in many regions of the country have recognized that much of their electricity infrastructure is aging. This awareness has triggered intense interest in ways to modernize the nation's infrastructure, to deploy advanced technologies that make the system more robust, to rely less on fossil fuel generation, and to implement regulations that support infrastructure modernization. All of these issues will be examined in detail. The National Electricity Delivery Forum is based on two premises: 1) that responding adequately to the challenges of infrastructure modernization will be a multi-year endeavor, and 2) that success will require focused cooperation among a wide range of points of view. Attendees will have a chance to hear from and interact with senior federal, state, regional policymakers and others by attending this unique and timely National Forum. Information from the 2006 Forum is available at the 2006 Forum website. |
