Buildings

Energy-efficient buildings improve our nation's energy security, cost less for us to operate, and enhance our comfort and air quality. As part of the effort to make net-zero-energy buildings a reality, Energetics has dedicated expertise in appliance standards rulemaking support and compliance, and certification and market transformation efforts for energy-efficient building technology. Appliance standards require appliance manufacturers to reduce energy and water use in their products, an important step toward net-zero-energy buildings. Market transformation also plays an important role in achieving this goal, allowing consumers to adopt energy-efficient building technology at a reduced cost.

Energetics has specific expertise in information and process management and analysis that aids the U.S. Department of Energy’s Building Technologies Program, including:

  • The electronic government initiative (eGov), an effort to migrate appliance and commercial equipment and rulemaking and waiver dockets to fully electronic operations, eliminating paper and enhancing portability and access for citizens and businesses.
  • The Federal Docket Management System (FDMS), a government-wide system under Regulations.gov that facilitates public access to information on government rulemaking processes.
  • Analysis of compliance and certification reports from residential appliance and commercial equipment manufacturers to ensure that their residential appliances and commercial equipment meet federal energy efficiency and water standards.
  • Project coordination support for the implementation and publication of energy conservation standards for residential appliances and commercial equipment.
