Measurement Science

Measurement science covers a range of concepts, including data, measurement equipment, and predictive tools and metrics.  A strong U.S. measurement science capability is vital to ensuring economic growth, competitiveness in global markets, and quality of life. The promise of exciting new fields such as nanotechnology, personalized medicine, and many others will be realized in part through the use of advanced measurement tools. Products and tools used in measurement science include the following:

  • Reference Data and Materials
  • Measurement and Testing Methods
  • Test Beds
  • Predictive Tools
  • Performance Metrics
  • Comparison Studies
  • Assessment of Technologies
  • Information Models
  • Protocols
  • Technical Guidelines

Energetics applies a wealth of subject matter and technical expertise to assess and monitor the current measurement infrastructure in the United States. We work closely with key measurement providers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), government agencies, national laboratories, universities, and research institutes to understand the state of the art and identify areas where measurement science may lag behind technology innovation. Our work includes examination of the measurements behind some of the most critical technologies impacting our world today: nanotechnology environmental health and safety, biological production of drugs, personalized medicine, renewable energy, and the impact of climate change.
