Energetics Incorporated is pleased to announce the addition of Joseph Sabel to our leadership team. A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Sabel has more than 30 years of experience working as an energy conservation and environmental expert in government and private industry. He will serve as both the leader of Energetics’ Building Energy Solutions Division and Energetics’ Chief Strategy Officer.
In his dual roles, Mr. Sabel will focus on developing innovative solutions to our clients’ energy and efficiency challenges. “I am very excited to apply my federal and private experience to help our clients succeed,” he explains.
For more than 30 years, he has guided private companies and government agencies working to develop and implement energy, environmental, and climate strategies. As the deputy of the Green Management Program at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Mr. Sabel planned, delivered, measured, and improved sustainability strategies across the department’s integrated energy, environment, fleet management, climate change, sustainable building, change leadership, and environmental justice programs. He also provided subject matter expertise related to environmental and energy laws, orders, and regulations; developed a strategic vision for the program; drafted policies; and coordinated planning efforts in partnership with key stakeholders.
Previously, Mr. Sabel was an Environmental Section Chief for the U.S. Coast Guard, where he acted as an environmental and energy subject matter expert for the Coast Guard’s Pacific Fleet. He also was the Energy Manager for the Coast Guard’s Civil Engineering Unit, negotiating energy performance contracts, conducting energy audits, planning the Federal Energy Efficiency Funds budget, partnering with civil engineering programs to improve efficiency in conjunction with energy conservation measures, conducting multiyear investigations, and developing policy and guidance.
Mr. Sabel also worked as an environmental consultant and geologist in the oil and gas industry. He provided consulting services in the areas of petroleum exploration, rights of way, environmental issues, National Environmental Policy Act compliance, and geological analysis.
Mr. Sabel has an MS in Geology from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, a BS in Geology from Iowa State University, and a master’s degree from the U.S. Naval War College, College of Naval Warfare.
