For over twelve years, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO) has been working with Energetics to develop and update comprehensive analyses of energy use across manufacturing sectors. The latest set of Manufacturing Energy and Carbon Footprints was released on the AMO website this week.
To create the footprint energy model, Energetics engineers relied on analysis of plant energy consumption statistics available through the Energy Information Administration’s Manufacturing Energy Consumption Survey, technical studies, and industry expertise. The two-page footprints map energy use and carbon emissions from energy supply to end use for 15 individual manufacturing sectors, and for the U.S. manufacturing sector as a whole.
The footprints have become the go-to reference for anyone interested in better understanding the energy distribution in manufacturing and targeting opportunities to save energy and emissions. This is the fourth update to this popular reference.
