The Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) Secretariat, operated by the Office of International Affairs in the U.S. Department of Energy, approached Energetics looking for assistance distributing its PDF newsletter most effectively. The Secretariat wanted to provide updates to CEM’s global stakeholders about the value and impact of CEM’s ongoing work to accelerate the transition to clean energy, but it was not sure how best to do so.
After asking detailed questions about the goals, audiences, key messages, and potential formats for the newsletter, Energetics recommended a strategic option for newsletter distribution—an e-newsletter that would track key measures of user interest and response, such as opens and link clicks. Energetics also suggested additional outreach activities that could complement and support CEM’s communications goals as part of a strategic communications and outreach program. Key elements of the strategy include a quarterly e-newsletter, a large website with a content management system, multiple social media platforms, annual reports, press release distribution, flyers, fact sheets, posters, infographics, presentations, and other materials. Energetics regularly reviews performance metrics and analytics to assess the effectiveness of these elements and adjusts the strategy, media, and tactics as needed to maximize impact.
The program has demonstrably helped raise the profile of CEM worldwide. Government decision makers and initiative partners now have multiple ways to access CEM news and resources to support their work in accelerating the transition to clean energy. The program also provides journalists, students and academics, and the public with a compelling means for staying informed of CEM news, events, and resources.
