Energetics conducted the full range of planning, execution, and follow-up activities for workshops in the United Kingdom and France to gather input on effective pathways and priorities for accelerating the development of a malaria vaccine.
Client Need
With support from the Wellcome Trust and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Malaria Vaccine Initiative needed help facilitating development of a global technology roadmap to accelerate development of an effective vaccine against P. falciparum—the most deadly type of malaria.
Solution
Energetics organized workshops in the United Kingdom and France to gather input on effective pathways and priorities from scientists, vaccinologists, malaria experts, policy analysts, and process specialists. Energetics conducted the full range of planning, execution, and follow-up activities for both of these overseas conferences. We also arranged two follow-on stakeholder meetings in May 2005, one in South Africa and the other in Maryland, to further broaden international participation in the ongoing roadmapping process.
Results
At the October 2004 meeting, 35 experts from the malaria vaccine community gathered to formulate a vision for the future and articulate the challenges facing the global malaria vaccine development community. This formed the basis for a subsequent Malaria Vaccine Technology Roadmap Meeting in March 2005, at which 75 experts gathered to identify the most important scientific, policy, and infrastructure issues that must be addressed in order to develop a successful malaria vaccine.
