Energetics supported the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Nuclear Energy in developing and producing a program summary for the Nuclear Power 2010 (NP 2010) program.
Client Need
NP 2010 supports near-term technology development and regulatory demonstration activities that advance National Energy Policy goals of long-term energy independence by reducing the technical, regulatory, and institutional barriers to near-term deployment of new nuclear power plants. NP 2010 program activities are designed to pave the way for industry decisions to build and operate new, advanced nuclear power plants in the United States. Our nuclear team provided DOE with a strategic plan to support program initiation; this plan was used as the basis for a five-year program plan, which we later updated. Once the program was under way, DOE needed a document to inform interested stakeholders about the program’s mission and status.
Solution
We closely monitored all projects within the NP 2010 program, collecting and analyzing input from DOE and stakeholders to prepare the NP 2010 Program Summary. We prepared a report that explains each demonstration project and its purpose in the context of nuclear energy policy, including an overall assessment of accomplishments from a programmatic perspective, individual status summaries for projects funded by the program, and planned activities for the next fiscal year.
Results
The NP 2010 Program Summary offers both DOE and the global research community a clear picture of program accomplishments in a single package—designed to spur innovation and continued support.
