Working with Eric Lightner of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability, Rich Scheer of Energetics Incorporated has coauthored a 10-page article highlighting the needs and opportunities for smart grid devices to transform our nation's electricity grid. Featured in the November/December issue of Electric Perspectives Magazine, "Transforming the Grid" presents a vision for the smart grid, outlines its potential benefits and the barriers to its implementation, and proposes metrics for measuring smart grid progress. The article also discusses ongoing projects in smart grid technology development, key areas for new research, and challenges and opportunities for the development of "next generation" devices. Additionally, the article highlights the need for effective public-private partnerships to ensure that the smart grid evolves in a way that accounts for and supports a range of potential business models.
