This project involved development of a vision of the future for the transition to a hydrogen economy in terms of policies, markets, and technologies, and obtaining buy-in to that vision from a wide range of key stakeholders and decision makers from the public and private sector from across the country.
Energetics conducted research into the ways hydrogen is currently used in industrial processes and chemicals manufacturing and analyzed the state-of-the-art in hydrogen energy technologies for production, storage, delivery, conversion, and end-use. We facilitated a workshop with 50 top executives and government officials to identify what the term "hydrogen economy" means for the U.S., and to brainstorm the circumstances under which a transition to the hydrogen economy might unfold. Through an extensive outreach and review process, the various concepts were shaped into a single vision.
This national vision was widely read and presented to President Bush as part of a process to launch a major hydrogen development program and is being used by the U.S. Department of Energy to guide research and development.
