Energetics partnered with the Department of Energy and the State Department to develop and finalize a suite of Technology Action Plans for the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate (MEF) that was released during the December 2009 UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. Energetics edited, organized, contributed content, and visually designed the plans, which aim to advance initiatives to meet the world's growing appetite for energy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Providing technical editing and subject-matter expertise, Energetics aided the development of Technology Action Plans in 10 clean energy technology areas: advanced vehicles; bioenergy; carbon capture, use, and storage; buildings sector energy efficiency, industrial sector energy efficiency; high-efficiency, low-emissions coal; marine energy; smart grid technologies; solar energy; and wind energy. The plans articulate carbon reduction opportunities, barriers and best practice strategies, and a menu of ambitious government actions in a standalone report for each of the technology areas.
The Technology Action Plans demonstrate substantial progress in achieving the goal of President Obama's newly launched MEF: to create a new dialogue among developed and emerging economies to combat climate change and promote clean energy. The suite of plans, which addresses roughly 80% of the world's energy-related CO2 abatement potential, will help generate the political leadership necessary to achieve global climate accords and cooperatively launch initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions amid increasing global energy demand.
