Energetics collaborated with Argonne National Laboratory and the American Foundry Society to develop the Magnesium Casting Industry Technology Roadmap, which outlines the strategic technology agenda for meeting the expectations of the industry and its customers in three critical areas: process technology, information management and sharing, and infrastructure development.
Client Need
In the mid-2000s, the magnesium casting industry committed to pursuing a robust research and development (R&D) agenda that recognizes the need for a balance of near-term and long-term research, new technology development and related training, education, and collaboration.

Solution
Energetics worked with the American Foundry Society (AFS) and Argonne National Laboratory to examine the future of the magnesium casting industry, determine the highest priority technological needs, and chart a course for successful growth in the next 15 years. We helped manufacturers, suppliers, customers, and researchers to reach a consensus on the actions needed to defend existing markets and capitalize on new opportunities, and developed a roadmap for achieving these goals.
Results
AFS, Argonne, and casting companies (including auto makers) are collaborating on the development of information-sharing structures related to R&D projects, materials properties, and other priority data identified in the roadmap.
