his roadmap was the product of extensive research and a series of workshops to develop a profile of national needs and opportunities for this technology. More than 1,000 people - energy sector practitioners and decision-makers - participated in these workshops. Published in 2001, this roadmap has been updated annually and has made a significant contribution in the growth in installation of combined heat and power. The initial goal was to double installed combined heat and power capacity in the U.S. by 2010 - from 46 GW to 92 GW. As a result of these efforts, in just two years the total installed combined heat and power capacity in the U.S. has already risen to 80 GW.
In 2004, a compilation of all Combined Heat and Power actions was developed, for use at the annual roadmap workshop. This document identified the many activities undertaken and accomplished since the CHP Roadmap was published. See http://www.uschpa.org/ for more details.
This National Combined Heat and Power Roadmap has guided growth of this technology in a number of key end-use sectors, most prominently, industrial and institutional markets.
