Wireless sensor systems hold the potential to help U.S. industry lower production costs and increase productivity. In 2002, Energetics helped DOE's Industrial Technologies Program work with wireless companies, manufacturers, and researchers to articulate long-term goals to help guide the development of industrial wireless sensor systems. The resulting document, Industrial Wireless Technology for the 21st Century, outlines a vision, defines specific goals, and maps out the key hurdles to fully exploiting wireless capabilities in industrial environments. This vision is being used by DOE and private companies to initiate collaborative efforts to develop industrial wireless sensor systems. Energetics helped wireless companies to form the X-member Wireless Industrial Networking Alliance (WINA), a new industry association devoted to accelerating the adoption of wireless solutions by industry.
