Energetics worked with industry , government, and universities to create a National Hydrogen Energy Roadmap that provides a framework for the coordinated, long-term, public, and private efforts required for hydrogen energy development.
Client Need
The U.S. Department of Energy initiated a National Hydrogen Vision and Roadmap process in response to recommendations in the National Energy Policy. The first step in that process resulted in publication of the National Vision of America’s Transition to a Hydrogen Economy. This roadmap represents the next step in that process.
Solution
To develop this roadmap, Energetics assessed the current status of existing hydrogen energy technologies in terms of cost, performance, and areas for improvement. We facilitated a two-day technical workshop of more than 200 experts and practitioners from energy companies, auto manufacturers, industrial gas companies, equipment manufacturers, government agencies, universities, and national laboratories to identify barriers, needs, and activities. Energetics developed the results of analysis and the workshop results into a cohesive roadmap that formed the basis for a national hydrogen initiative.
Results
This roadmap is being used to guide research and development paths and priorities of federal and state government agencies, utilities, equipment manufacturers, national laboratories, and universities. The roadmap was also presented to President Bush as part of the decision process to launch a major hydrogen energy development program. Two Energetics employees received awards from Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham for their contributions in facilitating the development of the report.
