This multi-year plan outlines activities to improve existing power systems and to develop new technologies, tools, and techniques for modernizing the electric grid. To help determine the priorities, Energetics facilitated the GridWorks RD&D Workshop and Webcast with more than 160 experts and practitioners from utilities, equipment manufacturers, government agencies, universities, and national laboratories to identify barriers, needs, and activities. This plan outlines activities and private-public partnership opportunities for the technological development of cables and conductors, power electronics, and substations and protective equipment.
