Energetics analyzed the emerging bioproducts area (chemical products derived from biomass) to understand the existing landscape for bioproducts and the potential for future commercial successes.
Client Need
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Biomass Program (OBP) funds RD&D in biofuels, bioproducts, and biopower. To determine the scope and risk of future bioproducts pathways, OBP needed to understand what bioproducts are being produced today, their potential, and any possible commercial and technical risks.
Solution
Working with industry experts and the most recent scientific literature, Energetics reviewed the current slate of bioproducts, their chemistry, possible feedstocks and agricultural challenges, and alternative synthetic pathways. The report includes sugar-based bioproducts and grains, as well as those produced from oils.
Results
The report, Industrial Bioproducts: Today and Tomorrow, provides a comprehensive review of bioproducts and is a good primer for those wanting to gain perspective on the field. The results have been presented at several international conferences and have generated significant interest from both public and private decision makers interested in pursuing R&D in this area.
