Energetics organized a structured review of the federal government’s climate change technology research and development portfolio across more than a dozen agencies, resulting in a detailed review that guided investments across more than a dozen federal agencies.
Client Need
The U.S. Climate Change Technology Program (CCTP), a multiagency planning and coordinating entity, needed to review and adjust their R&D investment and execution strategies to realign the portfolio with evolving climate science and advancements in new technologies that reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs).
Solution
Recognizing the need for a far-reaching strategy that encourages technological breakthroughs, Energetics brought together more than 60 innovative researchers and scientists from academia, industry, national laboratories, and government agencies to provide input on the CCTP R&D portfolio. We led a series of workshops to identify gaps and opportunities in the portfolio and generate novel ideas for GHG-reducing technologies over a 100-year planning horizon.
Results
The workshops offered a structured forum in which participants could discuss and suggest improvements to CCTP’s strategic approach for tackling climate change. Insights gained during the workshops provide direction for future R&D investments in climate change across more than a dozen federal agencies. The findings are available in a published report entitled Results of a Technical Review of the U.S. Climate Change Technology Program’s R&D Portfolio.
