The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) supports combined heat and power as a defense against supply disruptions to communities throughout the state. Energetics responded to NYSERDA’s need to identify technical and market opportunities for CHP throughout all end-use sectors in New York and to analyze these opportunities in light of their value for infrastructure resiliency.

The Energetics team analyzed both quantitative and qualitative data regarding the technical potential for CHP, infrastructure resiliency factors, and end-use sector energy demand. This effort served to identify those sectors with the best opportunities for CHP as a hedge against supply disruptions during natural or man-made emergencies. Energetics also recommended specific actions to promote CHP in these sectors.

As a result of this analysis, NYSERDA has awarded a follow-on contract to Energetics to share the information at state conferences of emergency responders throughout New York State.
