Energetics conducted an engineering analysis of prospective fuels for cars and trucks of the future for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
Client Need
Presentations by DOE program staff at conferences and other public forums provide an opportunity to communicate how vehicles powered by electricity and hydrogen can replace the projected demand for gasoline and diesel fuel while meeting our nation’s needs for mobility and for delivery of goods and services.
Solution
We analyzed the performance requirements of passenger and commercial vehicle driving duty cycles and requisite energy density requirements for on-board energy storage to perform these duty cycles. We also analyzed fuel alternatives, including the electric-generating capacity, required for energy carriers (electricity and hydrogen) to replace the projected demand for gasoline and diesel fuel.
Results
Presentations highlighting the study results were well received. DOE has received many additional requests for copies and use of these materials and for future presentations on this topic.
