Energetics developed a report for the U.S. Congress that helped articulate federal government strategies for deploying technologies and practices to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity.
Client Need
The Climate Change Technology Program needed to respond to Energy Policy Act Title XVI mandates that require the development of a national strategy to deploy GHG-reducing technologies.
Solution
To build a foundation for the national strategy, Energetics developed an inventory of federal policies and measures that encourage deployment of GHG-reducing technologies. We examined these federal activities against a database of near-commercial technologies and the key barriers limiting their deployment. We then integrated these three elements (federal activities, technologies, and key barriers) into the national strategy and resulting report to Congress.
Results
The federal government has clear, sector-specific strategies for bringing climate change technologies to the marketplace. The report and inventory of federal activities also provides a broad context for evaluating the adequacy of current policy and the potential need for additional measures that might be undertaken by government or industry.
