Energetics coordinated all logistical aspects of the FY 2004 Biomass Peer Review for the U.S. Department of Energy held on November 18-19, 2003. The primary objectives were to obtain expert opinion on the goals and objectives of the program, the feasibility for reaching those goals, technical barriers, and funding. To ensure consistency in the level and detail of information, Energetics gave the presenters a template for developing their presentations. We also provided extensive written materials to the reviewers two weeks in advance, identifying specific technical barriers, objectives, and R&D. Providing written materials beforehand was critical to the success of the Peer Review because this gave reviewers additional time to review the multiyear plans, gain an overall perspective of the direction of the Program, and formulate questions. In addition, we arranged a conference call prior to the meeting to answer questions, clarify protocol and understand the DOE perspective. At the meeting, we provided reviewers with a notebook of pertinent forms, agenda, instructions, travel reimbursement, and other meeting materials. Energetics compiled the final report as well.
