Energetics developed a web-based inventory that provides a wealth of information suitable for policy analysis on policies and measures currently in place that are designed to encourage deployment of greenhouse gas (GHG)-reducing technologies.
Client Need
The Climate Change Technologies Program (CCTP), a multi-agency federal planning and coordination entity, is responsible for supporting policy analysis to promote deployment of GHG-reducing technologies —actions central to the attainment of climate change goals. Establishing the foundation for policy analyses involves systematically taking stock of ongoing policies and measures, identifying key characteristics of each, and assessing their costs and relative GHG mitigation potentials.
Solution
Energetics’ policy experts researched federal programs and legislation, extracted relevant information, and implemented a web-based inventory as a knowledge-sharing hub. The inventory provides ready access to up-to-date information on the array of GHG-reducing policies and measures across the government, including data on sectors, lead agencies, barriers, budgets, mitigation impacts, status, and other key attributes.
Results
Using the information provided by the inventory, decision-makers are better equipped to compare, analyze, and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of government policies. No other resource on federal GHG-reducing technology policies and programs is as comprehensive; this inventory offers a full picture of ongoing actions from which to draw practical lessons and contribute to the effective design and implementation of policy.
